Farmer for Mayor
Fifth District City Councilman Bill Farmer is running for mayor. Farmer, the Republican candidate for mayor of Lexington, has begun his campaign for mayor by appealing to the Republican powers that be for money and support.
For those of you that think the race for mayor, and city council positions, in Lexington is non-partisan I’ve got sad news for you, they’re not.
Farmer with deep ties to the Community and with the deep pockets of local Republicans will be a formidable candidate. He has demonstrated a skill at political tight rope walking during the water company battle. I’m not sure even Farmer knows which side he is on.
However, by making his first appeal to the Republican faithful, Farmer has effectively stripped the veil of non-partisanship from the election.
Let’s hope his perspective is a little wider than the lock-stepping anti-government view that dominates the Republican Party today. Perhaps his brother-in-law Brian will be a moderating democratic influence.
Probably not, who ever listens to their brother-in-law.
