Attorney General Greg Stumbo is doing what all good prosecutors do when they are faced with a conspiracy. They keep tightening the screws until one of the links fail in the chain of conspiracy.
Dan Duren should be feeling the pressure about now. Duren was indicted on a felony count of tampering with a witness. Duren now faces the possibility of bobbing for soap with Bubba in the showers for 5 years. Something that should chill his support for Fletcher and company.
The Fletcher scandal is following the path of Nixon’s Watergate Scandal. The thing that undid the Nixon administration was the botched attempt to cover up a third rate burglary.
The Fletcher administration is attempting to hide its general incompetence in dealing with the herd of marginally qualified Republican job applicants wanting to feed at the public trough, and doing a miserable job of it.
If Fletcher and Lt. Gov. Steve Pence had actually stepped up to the plate and tried to deal with the “waste, fraud and abuse” this administration had perpetuated in the hiring process, instead of stonewalling and attacking Stumbo’s motivation for investigating, this whole thing would have been over months ago.
Now I don’t know if Duren will be the one that caves first, it might be former Kentucky Homeland Security Chief Keith Hall or maybe acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert, but as sure as Stumbo got the first felony indictment someone will cave and the Fletcher administration will be one and done.
Mitch McConnell must be wondering if he is the only Kentucky Republican that has a clue how politics work.
The only real political question now is whether or not the Democratic Party in Kentucky can get its act together enough to field a legitimate candidate for Governor.
The bumper sticker I would like to see next cycle is one with Ben Chandler pointing a finger and a caption of “I told you so!”
One other thing, an award should go to Bill Nighbert for the dumbest thing ever put in email. He made this comment on one official's willingness to keep Democrats in jobs.
"slow learners and should be removed from the gene pool"
Way to go Bill!
