About 7 years ago my daughter Jessica, then a teenager, informed me that she had a date with a guy named Nick McClure. I had talked to young master McClure a year so prior to when I was setting up the Lafayette Band web page.
At that point in time he was working part-time for a local Internet Service Provider and was trying to convince me that it would be better to host the band’s web page, for a fee, instead of using the free server at Fayette County Schools.
I had this mental image of Nick McClure. Something along the lines of Bill Gates with a nerd-pack in his shirt pocket.
So as the date approached I, as an untold number of fathers have, made plans on how I was going greet Mr. McClure at my front door. Thoughts of fear, threat and intimidation ran through my mind. Seemed like a good plan.
Now anyone can tell you that the best laid battle plan never survives initial contact. So the door bell rang, I made sure I got to the door first. I opened the door.
I quickly realized that plan A had just evaporated before my eyes.
There stood Nick, about four inches taller and 20 pounds heavier than me, and not 20 of my flabby middle aged pounds either, with his hair braided into a pony tail that reached to his waist.
Nope, not Bill Gates.
But rather a soccer playing Explorer Scout that was already running a web hosting business out of his parent’s basement. So I went to plan B --- be nice.
It worked.
Last September Jess and Nick were married.
And that explains why there are links on this page to McClure Photo and Ceiligirls.

Special Prosecutor
Saturday’s Courier Journal had an excellent editorial about the current merit system investigation by Greg Stumbo. The editorial recommends that Stumbo appoint a special prosecutor.
I completely agree. The only argument we hear from the Fletcher administration is that Greg Stumbo is grand standing and making political capital from this investigation.
I am sure from a purely partisan political point of view that there are not many democrats shedding tears over this administration being caught in the arrogant mismanagement of state government.
But Greg should divorce himself personally from the investigation. Go find some good legal minds and turn them loose on the investigation. I would be even better if they had no ties to the Commonwealth or any of the parties involved.

If I Told You I'd Have to Kill You
There is an old line about something secret that goes “If I told you I’d have to kill you.”
Well a few months ago, for no particularly good reason, I decided to start a blog. Not this blog, I wanted to maintain a certain separation from me personally and the blog commentary.
That lasted a few weeks until I was confronted at a political gathering and was asked if I was the blogger. The person recognized my writing style. Being more honest than smart I admitted I was the blogger.
Now it’s often said the only real secret is a secret that only one person knows. This is definitely true. Once two people know something it’s not a secret.
So today I shut down the other blog and will begin placing my thoughts on this site.
What was the other site you ask? The Last Sane Man in Kentucky
