Ernie Fletcher has made his bet in the casino of Kentucky politics. The calculation, surrounding his bet of admitting the guilt of his flunkies by granting pardons, is pretty simple.
Ernie thinks the Grand Jury will not indict him and the investigation is dead in the water.
Ernie thinks the Federal Prosecutor will not take over the investigation.
Ernie thinks the Legislature lacks the political will to impeach him.
Ernie thinks his political baggage from this bet will be no greater than Stumbo’s child support problems or Luallen’s ties to the Patton administration.
Ernie thinks that most of the voting public are idiots and will not remember any of this by the next general election.
My bet is that Ernie is right and we will have four more years of this ethically challenged administration.
Oh, and one other thing, Ernie had no choice but to grant the pardons before Dan Druen rolled over and gave up the entire administration, including Ernie.
