"Breach of contract is a legal concept in which a binding agreement or bargained-for exchange is not honored by one of the parties to the contract by non-performance or interference with the other party's performance."
REPUBLICAN CONTRACT WITH AMERICA
“As Republican Members of the House of Representatives and as citizens seeking to join that body we propose not just to change its policies, but even more important, to restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives.
That is why, in this era of official evasion and posturing, we offer instead a detailed agenda for national renewal, a written commitment with no fine print.
This year's election offers the chance, after four decades of one-party control, to bring to the House a new majority that will transform the way Congress works. That historic change would be the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public's money. It can be the beginning of a Congress that respects the values and shares the faith of the American family.
Like Lincoln, our first Republican president, we intend to act "with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right." To restore accountability to Congress. To end its cycle of scandal and disgrace. To make us all proud again of the way free people govern themselves.”
Tom DeLay's House of Shame
“Congress has always had its share of extremists. But the DeLay era is the first time the fringe has ever been in charge.”
Frist began process to sell shares before stock price began to fall
“Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist began exploring ways to sell his shares in HCA Inc. Apr. 29, more than two months before a Jul. 13 earnings warning caused the stock to fall, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.”
Debt held by the public: $4,606,272,846,357.54
“Debt Held by the Public -- Is all Federal debt held by individuals, corporations, state or local governments, foreign governments, and other entities outside of the United States Government less Federal Financing Bank securities. Types of securities held by the public include, but are not limited to, Treasury Bills, Notes, Bonds, TIPS, United States Savings Bonds, and State and Local Government Series.”
Forces: U.S. & Coalition/Casualties
“There have been 2,131 coalition troop deaths, 1,936 Americans, 96 Britons, 13 Bulgarians, one Dane, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 26 Italians, one Kazakh, one Latvian, 17 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and 18 Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of September 30, 2005.”
In hurricane's wake, a hard look at poverty
“WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The searing images of New Orleans residents who were stranded by floodwaters because they had no means to flee Hurricane Katrina exposed an abiding truth about poverty in America.
Despite more than 35 years of solid economic growth, the nation's poverty rate is no lower than in 1968.
And once again it's on the rise.”
I'm not a lawyer but it seems to me the court of public opinion should take a strong look at the Republican performance on this contract.
