From today’s Herald Leader:
“State Sen. Tom Buford, R-Nicholasville, is recuperating from quadruple bypass heart surgery. The operation was performed Friday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington after Buford, 56, suffered chest pains. He is scheduled to return home today, a hospital spokeswoman said. Buford has represented the 22nd Senate District since 1991. The district includes Jessamine, Boyle and Garrard counties and parts of southern Fayette County.”
Tom Buford is my state senator and one of the few moderate Republicans in the Kentucky Senate. I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Smart Money
Another of Ernie Fletcher’s key advisors has left the administration.
From today’s Herald Leader:
“Ralph Hacker, former sports broadcaster, has joined the list of experienced officials leaving Gov. Ernie Fletcher's administration before it reaches its halfway point next week.”
While it’s true that people at the upper levels of any administration come and go for a variety of reasons, for any administration to loose key experienced upper management in large numbers at the mid-point of the administration is unusual.
Hacker joins Jim Host, Dr. James Holsinger and Billy Reed in resigning. Add these three to the upper management that Fletcher has fired or encouraged to resign and you have a picture of Executive Staff realizing they are on the Titanic.
Watching this soap opera is kind of like watching the tote board at Keeneland. You can always see where the smart money is going, with the Fletcher administration the smart players a putting their money in pockets and heading home.
They will be back, but they won’t be betting on Ernie.
