He Was Particularly Pleased

Rep. Stan Lee, the micro-manager for the state universities, is a partner in the multi-state law firm of Bowles-Rice. Their web site has a public relations piece called Views and Visions. Stan has written an article for them about the state budget process.

Here are a few excerpts from the piece:

"As you can imagine, the budget is the single most important bill we pass and the General Assembly’s only constitutional obligation. The budget, an $18 billion, two-year spending plan, provides funding for state programs, agencies and a variety of construction projects. ……

For those of us here in Fayette County, the budget includes debt service funding next fiscal year to support the $36.5 million in bond funds to build a new indoor arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. This arena will be beneficial when the World Equestrian Games bring thousands of tourists to our community in 2010…….

We’re including a $50 million bond issue to pay for classroom technology, creating funding to put more computers at the hands of our public school students. I am particularly pleased that the bill has a provision to fund the (emphasis added) ICARE (Insurance Coverage Affordability and Relief to Small Employers) program. ICARE will dramatically increase the number of Kentuckians with health insurance by helping small businesses insure their employees."

Stan was so pleased with the budget that he voted against it, of course that was after he had voted for it. There is nothing like consistency.

You have to admire the man’s ability to get past a little hypocrisy on the way to making a buck.
