Democratic Primary Candidates

Jerry Abramson and Crit Luallen are out of the race for Governor. Comments from Jerry Lundergan seem to support that Luallen will not be returning for the Auditor’s race either.

Major players still remaining are Greg Stumbo and Brereton Jones.

My best guess at this point is that with Abramson out of the race Jack Conway will have a clear path to accept the Lt. Governor’s position on a ticket with Jones.

Stumbo being the consummate politician can read the signs. He will extract as much as possible from Jones to support his candidacy and will promise to deliver Eastern Kentucky.

A Jones-Conway ticket would be a good match on a number of levels, candidates from Louisville and Central Kentucky, experience and youth, and both able to raise a ton of money individually.

The Auditor’s office is the one office left that actually has any power and is still a totally open question. Maybe Jonathan Miller will reconsider and be part of a slate for the office.

The question now is what is the Gang of 39 going to do?
