Good Legislation
I have taken a number of shots at some of the less than inspiring legislation proposed for the next session of the General Assembly so here are two good bills pre-filed for the 2007 session of the General Assembly.
First, a common sense change to reduce the opportunity of state workers being the victims of identity theft sponsored by Julian Carroll. This would be a good standard for all employers in the Commonwealth.
BR 256 - Senator Julian M Carroll (10/19/06)
AN ACT relating to the identification of state employees. Amend KRS 18A.030 to require the secretary of the Personnel Cabinet to substitute personal identification numbers for social security numbers to identify state employees, and to prohibit the public disclosure of employee personal identification numbers; amend KRS 18A.0551 to conform.
Second, it’s about time somebody realized how dangerous it is being a protective services worker. We pay these people very little money to do a job most people don’t want. It’s sad it takes a murder to get a bill like this introduced.
BR 300 - Representative C B Embry Jr (10/30/06)
AN ACT relating to hazardous duty retirement. Amend KRS 61.592 to change the definition of a hazardous position to include positions classified in the social services series that involve child protective services investigations or ongoing face-to-face contact with families whose children have been placed in the custody of the cabinet.
