Now I’m all for bashing Ernie Fletcher when he deserves it, and we all know he’s done enough to deserve being bashed.
- Corruption in the Merit System
- Intelligent Design
- A Right to Work Law (for less money)
I could go on, but some things go over the line, like this story in Monday’s Herald Leader:
“FRANKFORT - Two names are noticeably absent from the list of contributors to a private fund set up to pay for renovating the Governor's Mansion.
Gov. Ernie Fletcher and first lady Glenna Fletcher, who is helping to lead the fund-raising effort, have put up no money themselves. And that has raised eyebrows, at least among some Democrats.
"Well, my goodness they're living there," said state Rep. Kathy Stein, D-Lexington. "Why haven't they contributed?"….
Former Gov. Julian Carroll said he finds it odd that the Fletchers haven't contributed.
"If he's expecting others to contribute, he ought to show his personal support for the same project by contributing himself," Carroll said.”
The first question I would have here is how much has Stein and Carroll, not to mention former Governors Paul Patton, Martha Layne Collins, John Y. Brown Jr. and Wendall Ford, given to the fund?
This is a cheap shot. I expect better from the Democrats than catty comments.
Fletcher’s public policy deserves criticism, not how he donates his personal money to charities or even to fixing up the Governor’s Mansion.
