A Measured Response

Best line I’ve heard today regarding the Democratic response to the Republican meltdown over the Foley sex scandal.

From Yahoo News:

"There's an old axiom in politics: never interfere with your opponents when they're in the process of committing suicide," said Larry Sabato, a political expert at the University of Virginia.”

Say Anything

If this guy wasn’t the President of the United States this would be laughable.

From the Herald-Leader:

“STOCKTON, Calif. - With control of Congress up for grabs in November and Republicans mired in an ugly sex scandal, President Bush is ripping into Democrats as never before. His message: They're dangerous to America.”

If you want to see an example of a last ditch desperate attempt to pull out an election this is it.

Have some dignity Mr. President.

They Have No Shame

How is a Republican Speaker of the House like a Roman Catholic Cardinal?

Neither is ever held accountable for covering up the abuse of children.

Lundergan Needs to Go

I wasn’t thrilled when Jerry Lundergan became the Chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party, but I was willing to give him a chance.

He and the folks that work for him have blown that chance.

According to the Herald-Leader, Lundergan and crew want to borrow $500,000.00 to fund races in the upcoming general election. They are banking on Bill Clinton to raise enough money in Louisville to pay off the loan.

“The loan also appears to contradict Lundergan's previous position on borrowing.

After taking over the chairmanship in 2005, he was critical that the party had taken out a $30,000 bank loan under the leadership of former party chairman Bill Garmer, a Lexington lawyer.

Lundergan touted the pay-off of that loan as a major accomplishment of his term as chairman.

He said in an interview late Tuesday that "there is a lot more to being a sound party than a balance sheet."

There is also more to a Chairman and his staff than waiting until two weeks before an election to do fund-raising.

Here is dilemma the Central Committee of the Democratic Party face. If they don’t borrow the money they won’t be able to fund the three competitive House Candidates, Weaver, Yarmuth and Lucas, they need to fund.

If they do take the loan they face the possibility that Clinton won’t be able to produce enough to pay it off.

Either way, the Democrats have a Chairman that didn’t do his job. Given how much the Republicans, from Fletcher to Foley, have screwed up any competent Democratic Party chairman should be leading a charge to run them out of office, instead of banking on Bill Clinton to pull his chestnuts out of the fire.

So on November 8th, the Central Committee should be calling for Lundergan’s head or the party faithful should be looking for a new Central Committee.
