Legislative Drivel

Mr. Bush’s war in Iraq has created an interesting class of sycophants in the Kentucky legislature. They kiss up to the power and valor and sacrifice of those in the military with near meaningless drivel disguised as legislation instead of dealing with real issues.

Two examples of this drivel comes in pre-filed legislation from Tommy Thompson,

BR 67 - Representative Tommy Thompson (11/09/06)

AN ACT relating to operator's licenses. Amend KRS 186.412, regarding motor vehicle operator's licenses, to clarify that a member of the military returning to the Commonwealth from out of state duty whose operator's license has expired while away shall not be cited or convicted for driving on an expired license within 90 days of return to the state if the person can provide proof of out of state service and dates of assignment; amend KRS 36.450, regarding licenses and certificates issued to members of the military, to conform.

BR 68 - Representative Tommy Thompson (11/09/06)

AN ACT relating to Kentucky State Parks. Create a new section of KRS Chapter 148 to create a twenty percent discount for overnight stays at Kentucky State Park lodges, cottages, and camp grounds for Kentucky residents who are members of the military or are veterans.
What every one in the military wants when they get home, the freedom to drive on an expired license to get a cut rate at a state camp ground.

Come on Tommy you can do better. How about something that deals with education, jobs, or insurance. You would think the Vice-Chair of the Banking and Insurance Committee might exercise some of that expertise and do something with the loan sharks that surround military bases and prey on military families.

Perhaps the Vice-Chair of the Banking and Insurance Committee has forgotten that the Office of Financial Institutions regulates the deferred deposit companies.

But maybe the problem is that the Kentucky Deferred Deposit Association is a contributor to Thompson.

Here is an article on the people that support Thompson and others.
