If you have ever heard the old joke about “Bad planning on your part is not a reason for me to panic”, you can see a real life example going on in Frankfort today.
Ernie Fletcher has screwed up the budget. We can add that to the laundry list of things this administration has done wrong. Apparently law enforcement in the Commonwealth will collapse if Ernie can’t illegally shift money around.
Gov. Ernie Fletcher signed an emergency order yesterday to provide an extra $16.4 million for the state police, corrections department and Department of Juvenile Justice.
Fletcher's order comes after state lawmakers last month failed to make changes in a two-year budget approved last year. The Republican governor put the blame on the Democratic-controlled state House.
Of course it’s not Ernie’s fault, the fault belongs to the House of Representatives. Well maybe that’s true, between Ernie Fletcher, Jody Richards, Harry Moberly and David Williams we have what may have been best summed up by Clint Eastwood in Heartbreak Ridge. You pick the quote you like, but I’m partial to the second one.
Apparently only Jonathan Miller has been paying attention to the State Supreme Court Ruling about running this state like a fiefdom.
State Treasurer Jonathan Miller questioned the legality today of Gov. Ernie Fletcher's decision to shift money within the state budget without the approval of lawmakers.
Law enforcement in the Commonwealth will not crumble if Ernie can’t use a few more public dollars to help his efforts to buy reelection.
I find it refreshing when public official is willing to raise a question about government action rather than misuse their office or pander to the public.
