Best Choice Today

Having engaged in the Zen of gardening for the last week my mind is rested even if my body keeps reminding me I’m not 18 years old anymore.

I lost the candidate I volunteered for and contributed to, Jonathan Miller. Given the realities of the race I believe he made the only honorable choice he could make, dropping out. To have done anything else would simply have been an exercise in ego.

I am now faced with finding a new candidate to back. Having watched this race up close and personal I will probably vote for Steve Beshear and Dan Mongiardo.

I cannot vote for Bruce Lunsford and Greg Stumbo, they are so ethically challenged on so many levels that it boggles the mind.

With Steve Henry’s skill at manipulating money, whether it is campaign contributions or one of the charities he and Heather have started, I cringe at what he would do with the state budget.

Jody Richards continues to live in an ego driven fantasy world where he has a chance of being the next governor. Richards is a nice guy, but on too many occasions he has rolled over and allowed bad legislation for the sake of keeping his office as Speaker of the House. The last thing we need now is a weak governor, even if he is a nice guy.

What can you say about Gatewood, you either think he is one of the smartest people around or a clueless dope smoking lawyer. I happen to think Gatewood is one of the smartest men I know, but I also think his administration would be one huge chaotic mess. Gatewood has done more with less than any politician current active, but he has no idea how to manage the day to day operations of government.

Otis Hensley has brought humor to the campaign. If Otis lives to be a hundred, and runs every four years, he may someday be elected Governor, but at this time he is the comic relief in the campaign.

Even though I will support Beshear and Mongiardo because they are best choice I have this cycle, I do not believe their plan for gambling is the correct answer for the future of Kentucky. I will vote for Beshear and Mongiardo and then do everything I can to oppose they plans for Casino Gambling.

Casino gambling is a proven economic loser and spirit-killing enterprise that delivers precisely the opposite of its falsely claimed benefits. One need only look at the experience of states that have already accepted gambling's Faustian bargain.”
