Looks Like A Duck
Having just returned from Quito Ecuador I must still be a little light headed. The altitude of Quito, (9,252 ft.), is almost twice as high as Denver, Colorado.
So I’m having a problem understanding how Rep. Harry Moberly, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, can take the job of Executive Vice President for Administration at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) and it is not a conflict of interest.

From the Herald-Leader:
Moberly said his promotion does not create a conflict of interest because he won't be representing the university in an external manner.
House Speaker Jody Richards, D-Bowling Green, said he is not concerned that Moberly's new job might conflict with his position as chairman of the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee, one of the most influential posts in Frankfort…..
In his new position, Moberly will oversee several senior staff members, including Vice President for Finance Debbie Newsom; James Street, who will be retitled Associate Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities Management; Mona Isaacs, who will be retitled Associate Vice President for Information Technology; Director of Human Resources Gary Barksdale; and Betsy Bohannon, who is being promoted to Director of Student Judicial Services.
So here is what I don’t understand.
If you have one job that pretty much mandates that you want to get all the State Dollars you can for your University and you have the job of writing the budget that determines how many State Dollars the University gets isn’t that a conflict?
The last time I checked the General Fund Dollars (state tax dollars) going to Eastern Kentucky University was over $75,000,000.00 per year. The general fund dollars are about 27.5% of the EKU budget.
So basically what Harry and Jody are saying is for us to ignore the duck in the room.
I’m sorry it still looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, and smells like a duck.
