Trey Grayson has resigned as Secretary of State and Steve Beshear has appointed Elaine Walker. Ms. Walker is not the worst possible candidate for the job but she comes pretty close.
From the Herald-Leader:
Republican Secretary of State Trey Grayson announced Friday that he will leave his state post to become director of Harvard University's prestigious Institute of Politics, effective Jan. 31.
Shortly afterward, Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear announced in a Capitol news conference that he will appoint Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker to serve the remaining 11 months of Grayson's term………
Walker is president of the Kentucky League of Cities and served on the board a year ago when Sylvia Lovely stepped down as the league's executive director after a series of Herald-Leader articles detailed large salaries, big expense accounts and conflicts of interest at the organization.
Walker was a vociferous defender of Lovely. She also opposed legislative changes that require the league to hold most of its meetings in public because she thought legislative strategy sessions ought to be behind closed doors.

Gleichschaltung in the Kentucky Senate

Shame on the members of the Kentucky Senate, they have just turned in a performance that echo the Reichstag session of 23 March 1933, in which the Reichstag disposed of its powers in favor of the Nazi government in the Enabling Act, another step in the so-called Gleichschaltung.
The package being rushed through the Senate without any consideration of what the effects of the laws will be.
Come on guys we elected you to represent the citizens of Kentucky and we elected you to think about laws before you vote on them, not be a bunch of sheep.
We did not elect you to click your heels, snap to attention and march lock step down the halls of the state Capitol.
