I hate to quote Rand Paul, but what he says about Washington is true at the state level.
"Long term incumbency leads to politicians who seem to care more about what is best for their career than what is best for their country."
What would be the effect if we had a 12 year term limit on the Kentucky Senate? That’s three terms. Long enough to figure out where your desk is and have the Legislative Research Commission write a few bills you can put your name on.
The first result would be that 13 of the 38 members would immediately have to go home. Now I’m sure that all of the voters love their Senators, particularly this group of 13, career politicians.
But when is it enough when comes to feeding at the public trough. What have they really accomplished in the last 12 years?
The second result would be to discourage the professional politicians from running.
The third result, and I’m really stretching for this one, we might just get something done if they know they can’t sit there forever.
I know term limits are a pipe dream. This is like asking 13 meth addicts to all quit at the same time. I can already count 13 no votes in the Senate, and that would assume that someone introduced the bill and it ever got a hearing.
But, when is enough….enough.

Take A Week Off
After careful and deliberate debate and consideration here is everything the Kentucky Legislature has accomplished in the current session.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION adjourning the 2011 Regular Session of the General Assembly until February 1, 2011.
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Senate concurring therein:
Section 1. When the House of Representatives and the Senate adjourn on January 7, 2011, they do adjourn until February 1, 2011, when they shall convene for the second part of the 2011 Regular Session of the General Assembly.
That’s it. They have sent nada to the Governor.
Now I’m sure there will be other legislation passed in this session. Most of it will be rammed through at the last minute with most of our honorable legislators clueless about what they are voting on.
We really do get the kind of representation we deserve. Term limits seem like a good idea right about now.
