Senator Mitch McConnell did the right thing.
He voted against the joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States authorizing Congress to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States.
The resolution failed by one vote. McConnell could have joined Jim Bunning in supporting this attempt at limiting free speech but he didn’t.
Don’t get me wrong, I think burning the flag is a distasteful, stupid way to voice an opinion. But passing a Constitutional amendment banning it is the edge of a slippery slope to silencing free speech.
I wonder if the conservative right will brand McConnell as an unpatriotic coward for his vote.
Now if we could only get McConnell to realize that you can’t support a family on a minimum wage of $5.15 per hour.
