More on the Sales and Use Tax Agreement
Thanks to Laura Leigh Goins for some more on the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement.
From the Courier Journal:
"Of the nearly 1.7 million tax returns filed last year in Kentucky, only 11,501 reported use taxes. Kentuckians acknowledged they owed about $662,000 for online and catalog purchases where no sales tax was collected."
And a Courier Journal Editorial Piece:
"According to a University of Tennessee study, the amount of uncollected sales taxes nationally could grow to $23 billion by 2012. As Courier-Journal reporter Lesley Stedman Weidenbener wrote Monday, that includes $212 million for Kentucky — twice as much as its haul from the most recent increase in the cigarette tax — and $398 million for Indiana, enough to hire 6,500 more public school teachers."
